The not for profit group Association of Personal Injury Lawyers (APIL) have released figures showing that the number of deaths and personal injuries arising from Asbestos fibres are likely to increase over the next five years.

APIL are calling for the government to act on brining in a fund of last resort to compensate those people who otherwise wouldn’t be able to pursue a personal injury claim and obtain the justice that they deserve. APIL highlighted that many people who develop mesothelioma are not able to pursue a personal injury claim for compensation because the employers who exposed them to Asbestos and their insurers cannot be traced.

The government proposed to set up a fund 2 years ago but have not acted on this proposal since.
