Specialist trade union lawyers Thompsons have secured a compensation claim of £35,000 for a Unite member following a trip at work. 58 year old Irene Tinto sustained a closed fracture in her leg after tripping over a door mat left folded across a doorway by a cleaner.
Following the accident in 2010 Miss Tinto’s injury did not heal as expected and she had to undergo an operation to her leg. As a member of her union Unite, Miss Tinto was able to access the full support and legal advice of award winning solicitors Thompsons to progress her compensation claim. Irene Tinto said: The team at Unite were approachable and straightforward – they gave me the right kind of advice at just the right time. My Unite representative then put me in touch with Tracy McCartney at Thompsons Solicitors. Tracy was excellent – she listened attentively when I told her about my accident, and she ensured that my case was handled straight away.”
Miss Tinto was unable to return to her job as a technical officer at St Andrew’s University for some time and felt she had no option but to take ill health retirement. This led to wage loss and a loss to her pension on top of the pain and suffering she had already endured.
Thompsons Solicitors intimated a claim on the Unite member’s behalf and liability was admitted. Medical investigations were carried out and it became clear that a period of time had to pass to enable the consultant to provide his final prognosis. Once this was obtained along with an expert report on her extensive pension loss, settlement negotiations were entered into.
Following negotiations a sum of £35,000 was agreed without the need for court proceedings.
Miss Irene Tinto added: “It was my first time dealing with a solicitor and I was really happy with the service I received.”
