Paul McIntosh, SolicitorA television engineer crushed by a faulty gate while trying to access a transmitter has been helped to £10,000 compensation by specialist trade union lawyers Thompsons.

In March 2009 the client, an employee of Arqiva, a communications and media services company, had to visit a transmitter located on a farm. In order to reach the transmitter he was required to open a farm gate. The gate had previously been defective but the client had been informed it had been fixed. As he opened the gate it became apparent it was in fact still faulty, and it fell, knocking him to the ground and landed on top of him.

As a member of his union, BECTU, the engineer was entitled to full legal support from Thompsons to pursue a claim against his employers. Our client’s employers ultimately admitted liability for the accident on the basis they had informed the engineer that the gate had been repaired when this was not actually the case.

Thompsons Solicitors Paul McIntosh said: “This was an accident which was completely avoidable and caused considerable injury and inconvenience for my client so it was a great relief to him that his employers admitted liability. Our client was very pleased with the outcome and I am satisfied he has been duly recompensed for his suffering.”
