A council electrician recently received compensation after suffering a knee injury at work. At the time of his injury he was doing some renovation work to the wiring of an empty house. As he was going down a flight of stairs in the house, he tripped on an exposed stair gripper and injured his knee.
His knee was very painful and after going to hospital it was discovered that he had damaged the ligaments and cartilage. This meant that he had to take time off work and had difficulty walking and driving. Even after physiotherapy he was unable to work in his previous role and had to take a lower paid position with the council. This will affect his future earnings and also his pension entitlement.
He felt that his accident at work could have been avoided if the council had followed the proper health and safety procedures and so he decided to make a compensation claim. His claim was settled out of court and he received £62,000 in compensation.
