Award winning lawyers Thompsons has lodged another successful compensation claim for a PCS Union member. Margaret McIlree slipped from a ladder in October 2008 while employed as a civilian guard at Faslane Naval Base.
Ms McIlree was required to climb a ladder to reach an observation tower which involved her reaching out from the ladder to grab a rail and pull herself into the tower. As she reached out, her hand slipped and she fell back down the ladder hitting her head at the bottom. Despite wearing a hard hat she still sustained significant injuries which resulted in absence from work.
Following the accident Ms McIlree suffered from symptoms similar to whiplash which lasted around two years. She also suffered financially with loss of earnings in relation to overtime.
As a union member Ms McIlree was entitled to free legal support from Thompsons Solicitors who raised court proceeding on her behalf after liability was denied. A settlement figure of £7,000 was agreed to compensate for injuries and loss of earnings.
Thompsons Solicitor Laura Connor said: “This case highlights the strength of raising court hearings as there were no eye witnesses and liability was denied. This case ended positively for the client who was duly recompensed following her ordeal”.
