LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD FOR FRANK MAGUIRE
Scotland’s multi-award-winning personal injury and employment firm Thompsons Solicitors has added to its trophy cabinet with another three awards at this year’s Scott and Co Legal Awards.
“The Firm added to their growing trophy cabinet by taking Litigation Team of the Year and being highly commended in the Employment Team of the Year category. Partner Laura Blane also took the Specialist Lawyer of the Year gong for her asbestos expertise and work in securing October’s landmark Supreme Court ruling on pleural plaques.”
The Firm’s former senior partner, Frank Maguire, who passed away in September from cancer, was also honoured with the Lifetime Achievement award.
Talking of the Firm’s awards success, senior partner Syd Smith said:
“It’s great that once again our work in all of the Firm’s specialist areas has been recognised as award winning. Congratulations to Laura Blane too who has made such an impact since becoming partner last year.
“It is testament to the hard-work of everyone at Thompsons who consistently deliver the award-winning service for which we have become known.
“We pride ourselves on doing everything possible to help our clients. We don’t just see the case we go beyond it to support them in their efforts to get justice and answers. This is the philosophy that is behind everything that we do at Thompsons and I’m delighted that it’s recognised year after year with so many awards.”
Speaking of Frank Maguire’s Lifetime Achievement Award, Syd said:
“Frank was one of the finest legal minds this country has produced and absolutely deserves this award. I and the Firm all miss him greatly and wish he were here to accept the award.
“He really was the people’s advocate in every way. He had an unflinching belief in what was right and just. For Frank each case was a cause.
“His talent as well as the friendship and support he gave so many of us will never be forgotten.”
Commenting on her Specialist Lawyer of the Year Award, Laura Blane, said:
“I’m delighted to receive this award. The last year has been a very important one for the rights of asbestos sufferers; the Supreme Court’s decision to re-instate the rights of pleural plaques victims to compensation was a milestone moment for those affected by asbestos and the decision on the cross appeal changed Scots Law.
“To win this award is an honour, but those who deserve recognition are the thousands of people who are battling asbestos-related diseases and fighting for the support and legal rights they deserve.
“I and my colleagues at Thompsons will continue to campaign to ensure that their rights are improved and respected.”
Patrick McGuire is an expert in personal injury law. Speaking about the Firm’s Litigation Team of the Year award he said:
“At Thompsons we’re always on the side of the victims of injury, injustice and industrial disease. It’s this philosophy that is at the heart of what we do and it’s great that it’s recognised by the legal fraternity with these awards.
“For us the law isn’t just about cases and judgements, it’s also about campaigns and justice in the broadest sense of the word. The law can help people put wrongs right and shape society for the better. This Firm will never see the law simply as a set of rules.
“That’s why when our clients come to us we do everything possible to help them meet their goals. Our clients are what make Thompsons the Firm it is, so special thanks has to go to each and every one of them.”
