I read an intriguing article recently, which stated that scientists have developed new techniques to treat spinal injuries. Having seen first hand the devastation spinal injuries can cause to individuals and families this can only be a good thing.Scientists have discovered that scar tissue forms when there has been damage to the spinal chord and this scar tissue it is said can act as a barrier to healing.
This week I met with one of the victims of the PIP scandal. It was revealed last year the French-made PIP implants could rupture and leak industrial-grade silicone into the body. There were fears the substance could be toxic and cause cancer, although it has been reported that there is no evidence for this so far, ruptured implants can cause a great deal of pain and suffering.
I read recently of a possible breakthrough in the treatment of brain-damaged victims with great interest.A Canadian man who suffered significant brain injuries as a result of a road traffic accident and who was believed to be in a vegetative state for more then 12 years has recently been able to converse with researchers.
It’s been a tough slog for the thousands of victims of the PIP breast implant scandal both here in Scotland and further a field. From the moment the news broke that the French firm Poly Implant Prothese (PIP) had been supplying clinics with implants using non-authorised silicon gel, or in other words implants which should not have been used for medical purposes, it has been an emotional roller coaster.
Personal injury compensation lawyers Thompsons is leading the campaign for victims of the PIP implant scandal in Scotland, many of whom are understandably upset by the news that the man behind the health scare has been released from jail. Aside from the ongoing civil compensation actions there is a concurrent criminal prosecution against Jean-Claude Mas, the former head of the French firm Poly Implant Prothese (PIP).

I was shocked to read recently about a woman who was involved in a terrifying accident at Kirkcaldy train station. The mother of two was trying to get off the train with her husband and two sons when the accident happened. She stated that as she was attempting to exit the train the doors shut without warning, pushing her on to the track and under the wheels. Her eldest son jumped on to the tracks to pull her clear while her younger son shouted at railway staff to stop the train moving.
