Seatbelt Injuries

The law requires that we wear a seatbelt at all times when we are in a car, whether as a passenger or a driver.

If you are involved in an accident and you are not wearing a seatbelt then your damages may be reduced as a result. However our specialists can advise you as to the extent of this responsibility.

It is particularly important that you remember to ensure that all children are either wearing a seatbelt, in a booster seat or in a car seat all appropriate for their age, size and weight whilst you are in the car with them.

The risk to back seat passengers in cars has perhaps been less well understood.

In a crash at 30mph, an adult back seat passenger is thrown forward with a force of three and a half tonnes, equal to the weight of an elephant. Even a child would be like a baby elephant.

Without a seatbelt, this could result in death or serious injury not only to the passenger but to other people in the front and back of the vehicle.
