What is Vibration White Finger?

Vibration White Finger (Hand-Arm Vibration Syndrome or HAVS) is an industrial injury which mainly affects people who operate vibrating power tools such as chain saws, grinders or pneumatic drills.

Vibration White Finger has the potential to affect any worker who uses powered hand-held or hand-guided tools as a major part of their job.

Common signs of Vibration White Finger

Workers whose hands are regularly exposed to high vibration may suffer from several kinds of effects to the hands and arm, including impaired blood circulation and damage to the nerves and muscles.

It is felt as a tingling or numbness in the fingers or where finger blanching occurs.

Can I make a claim for Compensation?

The sum received as compensation for Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome Claims is also dependent on three things:

1. It has to be medically proven that it was use of the hand held vibratory tools that led to the industrial illness of Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome or HAVS

2. The extent of disability / distress caused by Hand Arm Vibration Syndrome or HAVS in the patient

3. The employers were at fault.
