A woman has been successful in her compensation claim against Marks and Spencers after slipping in a puddle of water in one of their stores. As a result of this claim she received an out of court settlement of £6,800.
The woman had been walking through the food section of the store when she suddenly slipped in a puddle on the floor and crashed into a food shelf. She was helped to her feet and taken to hospital where it was discovered that she had suffered a broken arm and also severe bruising.
As a result of these injuries she had to get help with every day activities such as cooking and cleaning. She was also a carer for her mother and was unable to continue doing this after her accident.
Due to these factors she decided to seek compensation from Marks and Spencers on the ground that they had been negligent by failing to keep their floor clean. She was able to negotiate an acceptable settlement without having to go to court.
