When attending a trampolining lesson at her local sports centre, a Manchester woman sustained a terrible injury which led to her losing the lower part of her leg. Despite never having tried trampolining before, she was asked to perform a complicated move at the end of her first lesson. Because of her lack of experience in the sport she landed badly, fracturing her knee and damaging blood vessels in her leg. The damage could not be repaired, and on medical advice she decided to get an amputation. This was a very difficult decision, and one which she was forced to make due to the sports centre’s negligence.
The sports centre initially denied liability for the injury. However, after court proceedings were commenced, the sports centre offered a six-figure settlement. The woman’s lawyers were able to negotiate a substantial rise on this offer, almost doubling the amount of compensation paid. She was able to use the compensation payout in order to make adaptions which would help her in her day to day life.
