The local authority are to review speed limits on roads in the Highlands in an attempt to prevent road traffic accidents.
In the Highlands there are almost 1,500 miles of A and B roads where the limit is the national speed limit of 60 mph. There have been arguments that this is too high due to the number of fatalities and injuries caused by road traffic accidents.
The Scottish Government have announced that they plan to try and reduce the number of deaths caused by car accidents by 40% over the next 10 years.
All local authorities in Scotland have been asked to review the speed limits on A and B Classified roads over the next year.
