A woman was injured after being struck by a mobility scooter in Retford town centre. As the vehicle hit her, her leg became trapped under it causing her to be dragged along the ground. The driver failed to stop for some time and was later convicted of actual bodily harm. At the time of the accident the woman had been out shopping with her husband.
As a result of this she ended up with a broken leg and damage to her knee and was kept in hospital for eight days. She also had to have help doing household chores for six months after the accident. The injury therefore affected her life in a serious way which was why she decided to seek compensation.
The driver’s insurer offered her a settlement of £38,000, which she accepted. She was pleased with the amount of compensation received, but also added that mobility scooter drivers should take extra care when driving on pavements or in pedestrian areas.
