Golfing Accident Compensation Claims

One of Scotland’s most popular sports is golf. Scotland is home to hundreds of golf courses and the sport is enjoyed by both men and women of all ages. Most people would not associate the sport with making a personal injury compensation claim. However, personal injuries can happen on the golf course which can result in a compensation claim being made.

Injuries which can be sustained range from minor injuries to more serious injuries which could require medical treatment. If you have sustained an injury when playing golf that was not your fault, you may be able to raise a successful compensation claim against the person or club who was at fault.

Causes of injuries include:

  • Being hit by a golf ball – even if the person who hits the ball shouts ‘fore’ after they have hit the ball, the injured party may still be able to bring a compensation claim against them.
  • A malfunction in the golf buggy causing it to stop suddenly and resulting in whiplash or the passenger being thrown from the buggy.
  • Injury caused by negligent driving of the golf buggy – if personal injury is sustained due to negligent driving of the golf buggy, the passengers may be able to bring a compensation claim against the driver.
  • Injury caused by a slip or a fall in the golf clubhouse – if this is the fault of the clubhouse i.e. due to wet floors or uneven flooring or stairs, the injured party may be able to bring a compensation claim against the golf club.
  • Injury suffered due to a badly maintained green – if there is holes in the grass which cause golfers to trip or fall, they may be able to being a compensation claim against the club.

Another possible injury which can be sustained is golfer’s elbow which is a form of tendonitis. This injury is caused due to the strain on the elbow when playing the sport. If this injury is sustained due to the fact that you have received poor training from an instructor you may be able to bring a compensation claim against the instructor.
