£9,500 Compensation for Cyclist

Sydney Hewitt was injured in a road traffic accident while out cycling. He was cycling along a road in Lossiemouth and was approaching a roundabout in the left lane. As he approached, a car struck his back wheel, causing him to lose control of his bike and fall to the ground.

Fortunately he was wearing a cycling helmet, but despite that his personal injuries were still serious. He suffered a shoulder injury, bruised ribs, an injury to his stomach and a broken thumb. The shoulder injury required surgery and continues to cause him pain. As a result of his personal injuries he was forced to take time off work.

Because of these factors, Mr Hewitt decided to sue the driver for compensation. However, the driver’s insurer did not want to settle. Mr Hewitt took them to court and was awarded £9,500 in compensation.

Mr Hewitt said that he was happy with the amount of compensation he received, but disappointed that the insurer had refused to settle as their driver was clearly at fault.
