Our associates are senior solicitors who are not partners of the firm. As well as handling a caseload, they may be involved in supervision of other legal executives and play a role in the management and the public profile of Thompsons.
Thompsons is committed to providing clients with the best available representation if their cases reach court. Most personal injury cases are raised in the Court of Session, where parties must be represented either by an advocate, from the Faculty of Advocates, or by a solicitor who has been granted extended rights of audience, usually called a solicitor advocate.
A considerable number of Thompsons' senior personnel are solicitor advocates. They prepare the written documents which have to be lodged in court to support each case, they provide the client with detailed advice about the prospects for the case and on any offer made, and they can also represent the client in court if the action is not settled or if some procedural issue arises during the progress of the case. This work is distinct from the case management work of the solicitor, or legal executive, who deals with the investigation and recovery of evidence, the instruction of expert reports and the day-to-day communication with the client and opponent.
Thompsons` team of Office Managers consist of Carole Nicholson, Catherine Buksh and Jacqueline Donnelly. Our three Office Managers have several years` of HR experience and are Associate members of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Their main duties are to ensure the smooth running of each office which will include looking after such matters as staff and their development as well as overseeing areas such as the upkeep of each property. The Office Managers` work with our Staff Partner, Wendy Durie, and their ultimate aim is to identify and improve the overall efficiency of the firm and to support a stimulating environment in which all staff of the firm are able to develop their skills and thereby achieve their potential.
