It is extremely important that constructions site workers can have confidence in the tools, plant and equipment with which they are provided.
Employers and construction site managers have a duty to workers to ensure that the tools, plant and equipment they provide do not pose risk of personal injury to workers.
Construction workers:
-
are entitled to be provided with equipment, which works effectively, is properly maintained and inspected and is fit for the purpose for which it is being used
-
should be properly trained in the use of equipment and must be advised of the risks and dangers posed to them by working with tools and equipment
-
must be provided with adequate personal protective equipment to ensure their safety when using equipment
See The Personal Protective Equipment Regulations 2002 for further information on duties of employers to supply proper and adequate PPE.
Regulations covering workplaces generally and not just construction sites apply directly to construction sites and impose obligations on employers to ensure workers safety.
See The Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 for further information on duties of employers relating to work equipment.
