What to look out for

The major issue with the PiP implants is their high rupture rate - and the fact that they have been found to contain industrial silicone instead of the required medical grade silicone.

There are a number of signs that your PiP breast implant might have ruptured or be leaking. The NHS recommends that you consult your doctor if you have any of the following symptoms:

• Pain
• Swelling
• Redness
• Tender breasts
• Change in the shape of the breast
• Deflation of the breast
• Lumpiness of the breast
• Lumpiness or swelling in the areas around the breast
