Latest award makes it three in a row.

Thompsons Solicitors have made it three in a row by winning recognition as Scotland’s top legal firm in the prestigious Scott + Co Scottish Legal Awards 2011.

Thompsons took the top award, the DX Firm of the Year title, at the glittering awards ceremony and gala dinner in Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Thursday March 17.

The judges praised Thompsons for their forward thinking approach and the way they engage all the staff. The firm’s testimonials were strong and their submission detailed how they had successfully managed change.

It is the second time in two years that Thompsons have been recognised as Scotland’s premier law practice.

In 2009 The Firm law magazine awarded Thompsons its Firm of the Year title and last year Senior Partner Frank Maguire won the Solicitor of the Year title.

Mr Maguire said: “Winning the DX Firm of the Year is the icing on a very special cake, coming as it does, hard on the heels of two other major awards.

“The DX Firm of the Year title is a testimony to the expertise, dedication and sheer hard work of our team of 60 solicitor advocates and lawyers, and their tremendous track record in achieving outstanding results for our clients.

“The Award also recognises our total commitment to our clients. They are at the heart of everything we do, and I thank them for putting their faith in Thompsons.

“We are delighted to land such a significant treble, and I believe with all due modesty that winning three major awards in just over two years is recognition of our consistency as well as our professionalism”.

Partner Patrick McGuire, speaking immediately after the announcement that Thompsons had won said: "What Thompsons stand for, what we are all about, is teamwork. We are forward-thinking, client-orientated and focused on service delivery.

“Of course we are pleased to win this award, but it's not about Thompsons, it's about the individuals and trade unions we represent, and it's about the future.

“We will continue to stand up for what we believe in."

Over 450 guests packed out the Edinburgh International Conference Centre to celebrate the Awards and see fourteen winners being announced with Thompsons Scotland collecting the ultimate award, the DX Firm of the Year Award 2011. 



Sir David Edward was honoured with the Scotsman Lifetime Achievement Award for his career as a lawyer, academic and former Judge of the Court of Justice of the European Communities.

The event was hosted by Scottish comedian Jonathan Watson and BBC Scotland’s Catriona Shearer. Irish Comedian Keith Farnan entertained guests after the award presentations. The event also raises funds for Children 1st Scotland’s leading child welfare charity.
