Legionnaires' disease is caused by breathing in water droplets contaminated with the Legionella bacterium. Once inhaled, the symptoms associated with Legionnaire’s disease (fever, muscle aches, persistent coughing, nausea and signs of mental confusion) can take up to two weeks to appear.
