HEP C Skipton Fund

There is a fund which has been set up and is administered in London and available to those infected through the NHS from Hepatitis C directly from treatment or from someone who had such treatment. £20,000 is paid out to those who have Hepatitis C which has not cleared spontaneously. A further £25,000 is paid out to those who have the most serious effects of the Hepatitis C such as cirrhosis of the liver etc.

We are currently considering a challenge against the Skipton Fund for non payment of cases which have cleared spontaneously. We will give further notice of this on the website as matters develop.

In the case of deaths occurring before 29 August 2003, the Skipton Fund will not pay out. We sought to amend the Smoking, Health and Social Care Act in the Scottish Parliament to include these persons but it was narrowly defeated (see Section 28). However, this is also under challenge by way of Judicial Review. Again, we will advise of developments.
