Thompsons is committed to providing clients with the best available representation if their cases reach court. Most personal injury cases are raised in the Court of Session, where parties must be represented either by an advocate, from the Faculty of Advocates, or by a solicitor who has been granted extended rights of audience - usually called a solicitor advocate.
A considerable number of Thompsons' senior personnel are solicitor advocates.
Solicitor advocates prepare the written documents that have to be lodged in court to support each case, they provide the client with detailed advice about the prospects for the case and on any offer made, and they can also represent the client in court if the action is not settled or if some procedural issue arises during the progress of the case.
This work is distinct from the case management work of the solicitor, or legal executive, who deals with the investigation and recovery of evidence, the instruction of expert reports and the day-to-day communication with the client and opponent.
