No Win No Fee Compensation Claims

We act on a No Win No Fee basis. Therefore, if your case it not successful, you do not need to pay a penny.

If your claim is successful, the amount which you will be required to pay is very little. Thompsons are not like many other firms of solicitors or claims companies who act on a No Win No Fee basis and we pride ourselves on being different. We care about our clients and want you to get as much compensation as possible. However, there are certain costs which we must recover.

On occasion, you will therefore be required to pay these costs but this will not result in any form of profit for us. Further, unlike many other firms and claims companies, we will not take a contingency fee, that is our fees will not be set in accordance with a percentage of your compensation (some claims companies charge as much as 30%).

Often the figure is not even this high and such outlays are only repayable if we cannot recover these costs from the other side.

When a case settles, an award for costs can be made against the Defenders. This can include a significant proportion of our fees for our work done in your case, which we will use in part-payment of our fees. We will try to recover as much of our fees from the other side as we can but it is unusual in any case for all fees to be fully met in this way. It is therefore likely that we will have to charge you a fee for our work but the difference between our fee to you and the other side's contribution towards it will be capped at 10% of your compensation. In the majority of cases we will not need to charge as much as the capped amount.

Thompsons will NOT charge you any "success fee" for taking the risk on your case. In other words, we will not ask you to complete a contract which entitles the solicitor to charge a success fee of up to 25% of the compensation recovered no matter how little work was actually done on the case.

You will see that the package which Thompsons offers to our client's is a very attractive one. It contains three elements:

1. to protect you against the risk of losing your case;
2. to provide for the cost of running your case without asking you to pay as it proceeds;
3. to ensure that you do not have to pay any legal fees to us if you lose, while there will be no excessive fees payable if you win.
