Following a lengthy investigation by the HSE and Strathclyde Police, Crown Office have decided no criminal prosecutions will take place in the wake of the C-Diff outbreak at the Vale of Leven hospital.
Thompsons, on behalf of the families of the victim’s, were successful in our campaign to convince the Scottish government in April 2009 to pledge that there will be a full Public Inquiry into the deaths.
Patrick McGuire, who acts for the families said:
“We are content, in these circumstances, to respect the decision of Crown Office not to prosecute. For the families, this is not about individual prosecutions, blame or compensation; it is about answers.”
“The decision not to prosecute should allow the Inquiry to commence expediently and we will continue to insist it does so.”
His sentiments were echoed by Dumbarton MSP Jackie Baillie:
"We now need the public inquiry to go ahead as quickly as possible so that the families get the answers they deserve."
