Jason Macintyre – Fatal Accident Inquiry

The findings of a Fatal Accident Inquiry into the death of Scottish champion cyclist Jason Macintyre have been published. Jason was killed in January 2008 when he collided with a council van that turned into his path on the A82 near Fort William. The findings by Sheriff Douglas Small, whilst acknowledging that all cyclists should wear helmets and high-visibility clothing whilst on public roads, found that Jason's compliance with this may not have prevented this accident and the fatal injuries he sustained.

Caroline is now pursuing The Highland Council, the van driver's employer, for £500,000 in compensation, representing the loss of the family's main earner. Under Scottish law, an employer may be held liable for the actions of their employees whilst they carry out their duties.
