Precautions must be taken to ensure there is sufficient space between pedestrians and vehicles at all times and if this is not possible there must be arrangements in place to warn the pedestrian at risk of the approaching vehicle.

It is not enough for construction site managers to simply put in place traffic routes and forget about them. They must ensure the routes are inspected, maintained and regularly checked.

The Workplace (Health, Safety, and Welfare) 1992 also apply to construction sites and impose obligations on employers to ensure safety of workers and specifically prevent accidents on traffic routes.
