Agricultural Accidents Facts and Figures

The Health and Safety Executive have reported that Agriculture has the highest fatal injury incidence rate out of the main industrial sectors.  Most people think that construction would have the highest fatality rate but in 2010/211 there were 42 agricultural fatalities reported.  This is one death per week.

Of the 436 people killed over the past ten years:

  • 140 were employees (32%)
  • 245 were self-employed (56%)
  • 51 were members of the public, (12%) of which
  • 19 of these were children under the age of 16 years old

The main causes of death to workers continue to be:

  • transport (being run over or vehicle overturns) - accounting for 26% of fatalities
  • falling from a height (through fragile roofs, trees etc) - 16%
  • struck by moving or falling objects (bales, trees etc) - 16%
  • asphyxiation/drowning - 10%
  • livestock-related fatalities - 10%
  • trapped by something collapsing or overturning - 6%
  • contact with electricity - 3%

If you have been involved in an accident at work and suffered a personal injury you can discuss matters confidentially with our specialist accident and injury lawyers.   You will be under no obligation to make a claim for compensation and if you decide to take matters further we will do so on a no win no fee basis.  Making a personal injury claim will not only give you the compensation you deserve, but it will also help protect future employees from having a similar accident at work.  Call 0800 0891331 and speak to our specialist lawyers.
