120% Rise in child road deaths is utterly unacceptable

Accidents to Children

The shocking statistic that child road deaths had increased by 120% in 2008 is a chilling statistic that must be reversed.

The number of road deaths in total has actually fallen, but the increase in the percentage involving children has lead to calls to “refocus” on the particular dangers to children.

The Institute for Advanced Motorists commented:

“The number of child deaths has shown a substantial jump in 2008, which underlines the need for Child Safety Week to focus on the dangers that children face on the road.  Although it follows a year in which child deaths were very low, it doesn’t do much for Scotland’s record as being worse for child casualties compared with England.”

Last week the Scottish Government announced its 10-year road safety plan to cut road deaths by 40%.  The ambitious target has been welcomed by safety campaigners.

Thompsons is the number one legal firm in Scotland in regard to dealing with all aspects of road traffic accidents from the very minor to the catastrophic.
